1. Out of the 2,446 auctions across the capital cities, 77.7% of properties sold according to preliminary auction clearance rates from CoreLogic. Sydney narrowly beat Melbourne once again, with clearance rates of 81.5% and 79.6%, respectively.

2. The gap between the Coalition and Labor has narrowed according to the latest Newspoll published by The Australian, with Labor now leading 51-49 compared to a 52-48 lead in the last poll. The Coalition remains ahead in the primary vote on 38%, while Labor fell one point to 34%.

3. Finance minister Mathias Cormann has described the Labor Party's plan for a zero net emissions target by 2050 as "reckless and irresponsible". Labor leader Anthony Albanese said that coal mining in Australia would likely continue past 2050 even with the target.

4. As reporting season enters its fourth and final week, the companies reporting today include BlueScope Streel, Cooper Energy, G8 Education, NIB and WorleyParsons.

5. All three major Wall Street indexes fell over 1% during last week. The Dow Jones was down 1.38% to 28,992.41, the S&P 500 fell 1.25% to 3,337.75 and the Nasdaq dropped 1.59% to 9,576.59.
