1. 80 business leaders call on state and federal governments to stick to reopening plan

The CEOs and leaders of many of the biggest companies operating in Australia, including the big four banks, BHP, Qantas and Telstra, have published an open letter in major newspapers across the country today to ask governments to "work together to implement the National Plan and chart a path out of the current lockdowns". The group of companies, which collectively employ almost one million people, said that "providing a light at the end of the tunnel will encourage more Australians to get vaccinated".

2. APRA names 13 worst super funds

The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) yesterday announced the results of its first annual superannuation performance test. 13 of the 76 MySuper products tested, with a total of 1.1 million members and $56.2 billion of investments, failed to pass. "As part of the most significant changes to superannuation in nearly 30 years, the Morrison Government is holding underperforming funds to account and strengthening protections for the retirement savings of millions of Australians," said Treasurer Josh Frydenberg. The list of funds is available on APRA's website.

3. Joe Biden and Scott Morrison to hold talks as ANZUS turns 70

Today marks the 70th anniversary of the signing of the ANZUS Treaty between Australia, New Zealand and the United States, and The Australian has reported that a call between President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Scott Morrison is planned for later this week. "President Johnson once said that Australia and the US would stand together in sunshine and in sorrow. And we’ve seen that through our long friendship," Morrison said in a video message recorded for an event at Sydney University's United States Studies Centre today.

4. Man bounces on space hopper for 17km in fundraiser for hospice

David Kay from Blackpool in England has set a new Guinness World Record for distance bounced on a space hopper after travelling 17km in 17 hours. Kay is a fundraiser for Trinity Hospice and Palliative Care Services and has undertaken a number of activities including skydiving to help raise £10,000 ($19,000).

5. US indexes dip on Tuesday

Overnight on Wall Street, the Dow Jones closed down 39.11 points or 0.11% to 35,360.73, the S&P 500 fell 6.11 points or 0.13% to 4,522.68 and the Nasdaq lost 6.65 points or 0.04% to 15,259.24.
