1. Qantas boss mandates staff vaccinations

Qantas boss Alan Joyce has told his 12,000 staff that if it’s no jab, then it’s no job.The Qantas CEO is leading a split in the big business group called the Business Council of Australia insisting that his employees get vaccinated. Other employers want the Government to issue public health orders before making their workers get jabbed but Mr Joyce has used a staff survey, which supported compulsory jabbing, to tell his team if they won’t be vaccinated, they have to decide if “aviation is not the area for them”.

2. Hang on, recession on the way

On the Vax rollout, and Prime Minister Morrison says a possible recession will depend on our vaccination rate. The PM addressed the issue about whether another recession is on the way, which will kill jobs, and he’s made it clear that lockdowns will create a recession and only an 80% vaccination rate will prevent this happening. Nationally, double-dosed Aussies are at 21%.

3. James Packer could lose his crown

Majority shareholder of Crown Resorts, James Packer, could be forced to sell out of his beloved casino/resort group at a loss.Mr Packer currently owns 37% of the $6 billion gambling/resort business but following the Bergin Inquiry into questionable behaviour by the company’s management, the NSW Government looks set to impose a 10% cap on anyone owning a casino operation. This rule will also make it harder for Mr Packer to find a buyer for his 37% stake.

4. 19-year-old pilot attempts round-the-world flight record

19-year-old British-Belgian pilot Zara Rutherford is attempting to become the youngest woman to fly solo around the world, taking off from Belgium yesterday on the three-month journey that will include stops in 52 countries. The current record is held by 30-year-old Shaesta Wais.

5. Dow and S&P 500 fall more than 1% overnight

On Wednesday in the US, the Dow Jones moved down 382.59 points or 1.08% to 34,960.69, the S&P 500 fell 47.81 points or 1.07% to 4,400.27 and the Nasdaq dropped 130.27 points or 0.89% to 14,525.91.
