1. Over 13.5 million Australians in lockdown for at least the next week

South Australia entered a one-week lockdown at 6pm last night following an announcement by Premier Steven Marshall. Victoria's lockdown has been extended by one more week until next Tuesday, while the lockdown in New South Wales is currently in place until July 30.

2. Victorian royal commission lawyers say Crown is not fit to run Melbourne casino

Counsel assisting the Victorian royal commission into Crown Resorts, Adrian Finanzio SC, has recommended that the company should have its casino licence in Melbourne cancelled. Commissioner Ray Finkelstein QC will make the final recommendation on Crown's suitability by October.

3. Olympics kicks off today with softball and soccer

Ahead of the opening ceremony for the Tokyo Olympics on Friday, the first games will be played today. The Aussie Spirit will take on Japan in the opening round of the women's softball tournament at 10am AEST, while the Matildas will take on New Zealand in the first round of the women's soccer tournament at 9:30pm AEST. Brisbane is widely expected to be confirmed as the host of the 2032 Olympics following a vote by the International Olympic Committee tonight.

4. Scottish police officer mistakes Jupiter for a drone

A police officer in Glasgow, Scotland thought she was being followed by a drone with a bright light after leaving a police station at around midnight last Tuesday. The Daily Record reported that, after failing to lose the drone, the officer called the non-emergency police line, who told her to drive back to the station and meet with a senior officer, who explained that the bright light following her was actually Jupiter.

5. Wall Street rebounds on Tuesday

After yesterday's fall of more than 2%, the Dow Jones rose by 549.95 points or 1.62% on Tuesday to 34,511.99. The S&P 500 recovered with a rise of 64.57 points or 1.52% to 4,323.06 and the Nasdaq gained 223.89 points or 1.57% to 14,498.88.
