1. RBA to hand down latest interest rate decision

Interest rates are widely expected to remain on hold when the Reserve Bank releases its policy statement at 2:30pm AEST today, and the central bank is also expected to provide updates on its bond buying program and the three-year bond yield target. RBA Governor Philip Lowe will also unusually appear at a press conference at 4:00pm AEST this afternoon.

2. 600 Sydney healthcare workers in isolation

Over 500 workers at Sydney's Royal North Shore hospital and over 120 works at Fairfield hospital are in isolation due to being close contacts of a student nurse who worked at both hospitals while infectious between June 24-28. "This is a difficult situation and probably the largest number of staff we’ve seen forced to isolate because of their close contact status in the workplace," said Brett Holmes, general secretary of the NSW Nurses and Midwives Association.

3. United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia in oil production standoff

OPEC+ called off a meeting scheduled for Monday after the United Arab Emirates rejected a plan by Saudi Arabia and the rest of the alliance to begin increasing oil production by around 2 million barrels per day in stages between August and the end of 2021. OPEC+ has been meeting each month to discuss easing productions cuts introduced last year.

4. Man who burnt down house by cooking steak in toaster demands bigger insurance payout

A New Zealand man who attempted to cook a steak in a toaster, and then left his house to go purchase chips while the steak cooked and caused his house to catch fire, has said that the NZ$418,000 ($391,000) insurance payout for his house being destroyed isn't enough. He demanded an additional NZ$200,000 ($187,000) in a complaint to NZ's Insurance and Financial Services Ombudsman which was rejected.

5. Wall Street closed for Fourth of July long weekend

US markets remained closed on Monday due to the Independence Day holiday, however stock futures for the Dow Jones were up by less than 0.1%, S&P 500 futures were flat and Nasdaq futures were down less than 0.1%.
