1. Murdoch’s News Corp to create FOX Bet

The SMH says industry sources, who spoke anonymously, said News Corp is talking to Fox Corp (also controlled by the Murdoch family) to use the FOX Bet brand name. And it could also end up owning the TAB for older gamblers beside another betting business aimed at young people. Will it happen? Bet on it!

2. Could this China curve ball hurt shares?

Market experts are only looking at the US and places like here, where interest rates are low with the central bank giving us lots of money. But China has been booming longer and is now putting on the economic brakes to avoid inflation. This could be a surprise hit to world growth and the surge in stocks. Better hope the experts are wrong.

3. Kiwis ignite ANZAC pact

The Kiwi PM has stayed loyal against China in opposing Beijing’s bans on barley and other exports. With our PM Scott Morrison in New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern has thrown her support behind Australia in its trade dispute with China on barley tariffs, in a show of unity against Beijing. She said: “Australia, you are our family… And so, I can’t imagine a more important time for us to just continue building those ties.” Go Jacinda!

4. Scientists discover 'chocolate frog'

Researchers from Griffith University and Queensland Museum have discovered a new species of frog in New Guinea that shows a connection between the island and Australia. "The closest known relative of Litoria mira is the Australian green tree frog. The two species look similar except one is usually green, while the new species usually has a lovely chocolate colouring," said researcher Dr Paul Oliver.

5. ASX and Nasdaq up more than 2% for the week

The S&P/ASX 200 and all three major US indexes were up last week. On a weekly basis, the Dow Jones was up 0.94% to 34,529.45, the S&P 500 gained 1.16% to 4,204.11 and the Nasdaq surged 2.06% to 13,748.74, while locally the ASX 200 was up 2.12% to 7,179.50.
