1. Therapeutic Goods Administration 'not particularly worried' about AstraZeneca data concerns

The head of the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), John Skerritt, said the regulator was "not particularly worried" about interim data released by AstraZeneca in the US on its COVID-19 vaccine trial as Australia will receive the "complete, unredacted set of data" from the company later on. On Monday, the Data and Safety Monitoring Board of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases said the information provided by AstraZeneca "may have included outdated information" and "may have provided an incomplete view of the efficacy data".

2. Scott Morrison supports gender quotas in the Liberal Party

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said he continues to support the introduction of a gender quota in the Liberal Party and will introduce mandatory health and safety training for all MPs and staff in response to the rape and sex scandals of the past month. Women made up 25.4% of Liberal MPs as of July last year according to The Australian.

3. 45% of self-directed investors not worried about losing money

New research from the UK's Financial Conduct Authority has revealed that 45% of self-directed investors do not see 'losing some money' as a potential risk of investing. 59% of those surveyed said that a 'significant investment loss' would fundamentally impact their lifestyle, compared to 38% of those who have invested for three or more years.

4. Biggest gain of the S&P 500 since March 2020

US Casino operator Penn National Gaming has risen 1,400% in the past year according to CNBC, outperforming the 499 other stocks that make up the S&P 500. Tesla was also highlighted as one of the biggest gainers of the past year with a rise of over 700%.

5. Wall Street falls

The Dow Jones moved 308.05 points or 0.94% lower to 32,423.15 on Tuesday as the US marked one year since the stock market lows of the COVID-19 pandemic. The S&P 500 fell by 30.07 points or 0.76% to 3,910.52 and the Nasdaq dropped 149.84 points or 1.12% to 13,227.70.
