1. Victoria set to exit snap lockdown tonight
The Herald Sun has reported that the five-day snap lockdown in Victoria is set to end at 11:59pm tonight. While schools are set to reopen and crowds allowed to return to the Australian Open, some restrictions will remain in place such as mandatory indoor mask wearing according to the Herald Sun.
2. Federal government to relax disclosure laws
Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has confirmed to the AFR that an easing of continuous disclosure laws initially introduced due to the pandemic will be made permanent. Companies and their directors must have acted with "knowledge, recklessness or negligence" to be liable for disclosure breaches.
3. Coles profit up 14.5%
Coles has reported a 14.5% increase in first-half net profit after tax to $560 million and will pay a 33 cent interim dividend, up 10% from last year. "With a strong balance sheet and team, Coles is well placed to continue delivering on our vision of becoming the most trusted retailer in Australia and grow long-term shareholder value," said CEO Steven Cain.
4. A 252-hour ice hockey game for charity in Canada
40 people from Alberta, Canada ended a 252-hour ice hockey game on Monday to set a new Guinness World Record. 'Team Hope' won the game 2,649 points to 2,528, with over $1.8 million being raised for cancer research at the University of Alberta.
5. Dow up as S&P 500 and Nasdaq dip
The Dow Jones reached a new record close of 31,522.75 after rising 64.35 points or 0.20% during Tuesday's session. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq both closed lower, with the former down 2.24 points or 0.06% to 3,932.59 and the latter falling 47.97 points or 0.34% to 14,047.50.
