1. Albanese pledges help for "gig economy workers".

Anthony Albanese will make the next election fight about protecting insecure workers such as those who work for Uber, Deliveroo, Menulog and Airtasker. Gig economy workers are paid by task rather than by hour and critics say they are often paid below minimum rates and have no entitlement to the conditions enjoyed by other workers.

2. Facebook will start banning COVID-19 vaccine conspiracies in a misinformation crackdown.

Facebook will ban conspiracy theories surrounding vaccines and misinformation surrounding COVID-19 including “Wearing a face mask doesn’t help prevent the spread of COVID”, “Social distancing does nothing to reduce COVID in the community” and “COVID tests come pre-infected with the disease”.

3. Crown Casino not suitable to hold Barangaroo Casino Licence

The ball is now in the court of Crown Casino after former NSW supreme court judge Patricia Bergin SC found Crown was unsuitable to hold a casino licence. However they have been given the chance to remedy their situation by reforming their culture, governance and internal controls.

4. Donald Trump's second impeachment trial begins

Former US president Donald Trump's second impeachment trial has begun testing accusations he incited his supporters to storm the US Capitol on January 6. Five people died during the riot and hundreds of others were injured. The decision by the senate will be final and Trump cannot have the decision overturned.

5. A mixed bag on Wall Street.

The Dow Jones closed at 31,375.83, −9.93 points (0.032%) down. The S&P 500 closed −4.36 points (0.11%) down at 3,911.23, but the Nasdaq rose +20.06 points (0.14%) to 14,007.70.
