1. Chinese takeover of Probuild called off over Frydenberg's concerns
State-owned China State Construction Engineering Corporation has withdrawn its $300 million bid to acquire building contractor Probuild after Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said he would reject the deal due to the implications on national security and the country's interests, the AFR reported.
2. House to vote on Trump impeachment
House Democrats introduced an article of impeachment on Monday that charges President Donald Trump with "incitement of insurrection". The House is expected to vote on impeaching the President an unprecedented second time on Wednesday, following a vote on Tuesday for a resolution that calls on Vice President Mike Pence to remove Trump from office under the 25th Amendment.
3. WA Premier warns against changes to GST
West Australian Premier Mark McGowan has told the AFR that any changes to the existing split up of GST between the states would be a "massive betrayal" that would cause "huge repercussions" in the state. The Commonwealth Grants Commission suggested last month that other states could potentially give up GST revenue to Victoria due to the economic effects of the protracted COVID-19 lockdown.
4. SeaBnBs set up for seahorses
A new campaign by the Sydney Institute of Marine Science and Taylors Wines will provide a temporary home for endangered seahorses in Sydney Harbour within temporary structures that have been dubbed 'SeaBnBs'. The campaign also includes the trial restoration of seagrass used as a habitat by seahorses and other species.
5. Wall Street starts the week lower
The three major indexes in the US closed lower on Monday, with the Dow Jones dipping 89.28 points or 0.29% to 31,008.69, the S&P 500 dropping 25.07 points or 0.66% to 3,799.61 and the Nasdaq falling 166.54 points or 1.25% to 13,036.43.
