1. PM Scott Morrison announced the government will build a gas-fired power station in the Hunter Valley, NSW, to replace the closed Liddell power station if the private sector fails to "step up" and secure investment within a 7-month time frame.

2. Macquarie announced its 3 top shares in the case of a COVID-19 vaccine. They were Star Entertainment, SeaLink Travel and Austal.

3. Shares in Oracle Corporation rose yesterday after the US tech company announced it would partner with ByteDance (the owner of popular app TikTok) in order to satisfy US national security concerns.

4. Shares in Tesla also soared, rising 12.6% after CEO Elon Musk tweeted "many exciting things will be unveiled on Battery Day 9/22".

5. The Dow rose 1.18% to 27,993.33, the S&P 500 jumped 1.27% and the Nasdaq rose 1.87% to 11,056.65.
