Switzer Daily
26 June 2020

1. The administrator debate for Virgin Australia's acquisition was down to two contenders: Wall Street hedge fund Cyrus Capital Partners and Boston-based investment firm Bain Capital. Cyrus officially pulled their bid on Friday morning due to "a lack of engagement by the administrator". The airline's administrators are Deloitte, who are said to pick Bain Capital as Virgin's preferred buyer by June 30.

2. Qantas announced 6000 workers would lose their jobs. The federal government has taken this as a sign that the industry would take a long time to bounce back, which has actioned talks of an assistance package for the airline industry.

3. The Morrison government has announced a $250 million assistance package called JobMaker, which is specifically for the creative economy to get the entertainment, arts and screen sectors back to work. With the arts and entertainment sector heavily hit by COVID-19 and one of the last to get back to work as social distancing restrictions ease, the stimulus package suggests the government may begin rolling out industry-specific assistance packages to wind up JobKeeper payments.

4. Australia and New Zealand have won the right to host the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2023.

5. The ASX is tipped to rise after a jump on Wall Street. The Dow Jones rose 1.18% to 25,745.60. The S&P 500 jumped 1.10% to 3,083.76 and Nasdaq jumped 1.09% to 10,017.00, back over the 10,000 mark record it hit this week.
