5 things you need to know today

1. Australia's unemployment rates were released yesterday and sat at 7.1%. This is roughly 927,000 Australians who are looking for employment. In addition, 13.1% of workers want more hours after a number of full-time workers have taken cuts to hours. In total, over 20% of Australia's workforce are either out of work or working less.

2. The Morrison government is announcing a shake-up in university fees as "universities must teach Australians the skills needed to succeed in the jobs of the future", reported The Australian. The drop in costs for maths, agriculture, teaching and nursing degrees aim to "incentivise students to make more job-relevant choices", while a hike in humanities, creative arts, law and behavioural sciences are not considered an area of expected employment growth for the future.

3. Financial advisers are encouraging the world's wealth to hold onto gold, which is the opposite of what was recommended before COVID-19. "Our view is that the weight of monetary supply, expansion, is going to ultimately be debasing to the dollar, and the Fed commitments, which [are] anchoring real rates, make the case for gold pretty sturdy," said Lisa Shalett, Chief Investment Officer, Wealth Management at Morgan Stanley. Gold prices have risen 14% since the start of the year to $US1730 an ounce.

4. The AFR's Street Talk reported that a Russia-founded fintech called Robocash is preparing for a $500 million listing on the ASX. The AFR reported, "a raising of that size would imply a $500 million-odd post-money market capitalisation for the financial services business or 9.8 times PE for fiscal 2020."

5. The market has continued its uncertainty and volatility, pitching the ASX to open flat this morning. The Dow Jones dropped 0.15% to 26,080.10, the S&P 500 was up 0.059% to 3,115.34 and Nasdaq rose 0.33% to 9,943.05.
