Most perfumes are designed to turn heads. This one’s designed to turn whiskers.
Meet Cat No. 9 Eau de Purrfum, a fragrance inspired by the way cats experience scent, launched with the help of cat-obsessed television personality Jessica Rowe. While it’s playful on the surface, there’s a health message behind the bottle.

While humans apparently get by on around five million odour receptors, cats have up to 200 million. Their whole world is built on smell, including the people they live with. Cat No. 9 opens notes of catnip essence, leafy green accords and violet, moving into a heart of olive fruit, olive leaf and silvervine, all scents cats are known to genuinely enjoy, before settling into soft musks, sandalwood, mosses and vanilla.
Created by perfumer Jocelyn Fullerton after researching feline olfactory science, the fragrance was finished with a touch of sweetness chosen by Jessica Rowe herself during final blending. “Cats experience scent in an extraordinary way, so every ingredient had to earn its place,” said Jocelyn Fullerton, Founder and Perfumer, Cult of Scent.
“One of the most surprising discoveries that we made during the formation of this fragrance was that one of a cat’s favourite scents is often its human. Rather than masking that familiar scent, Cat No. 9 was designed to gently enhance it,” Jessica Rowe added.

Cat No. 9 exists to raise awareness of how important scent is to a cat’s everyday wellbeing. Australia is home to an estimated 5.8 million pet cats, yet research commissioned by Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health Australia found fewer than half of cat owners (48%) stay on top of parasite protection, and only 23% treat monthly. One reason cited for this was smell. Some owners hold off on treatment because of how their cat reacts to the odour. NexGard SPECTRA® for Cats was developed with a low-odour, cat-friendly formula designed to make monthly protection easier for cats and their owners alike.
